Dear Friends in Media,
Greetings from Cox’s Bazar Civil Society NGO Forum (CCNF),
www.cxb-cso-ngo.org.
You know that; plastic is very much harmful to the environment. In every
year, about 30 corer tons of plastic waste are produced around the world.
Among this, 61% of the plastic waste directly goes to the environment.
Because of the carelessness of the people, every year 8 million tons of
plastic waste went to underground into the sea.
Cox's is hosting more than a million Rohingya in Ukhiya and Teknaf. It’s
been found that 2 thousand tons of plastic waste are produced every day in
the Rohingya camps. And the remarkably concerning thing in this area is the
withdrawal of water reserves.
We feel that this is important as Bangladesh is already hosting close to
one million Rohingya under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister,
Sheikh Hasina. With nearly six years since the onset of the most recent
crisis and the fight against climate change, we want to raise our voice on
how we can stop plastic and use alternatives in the Rohingya camps and in
Cox’s Bazar as well.
We are pleased to inform you that, on the eve of the rally titled “Using
Plastics Must be Stopped in Cox’s Bazar and Rohingya Camps” on *25th
February 2023 10h30 to 12h30 at the premises of Cox’s Bazar DC office. *
We would like to invite you/your representative to join the rally and to
take necessary actions to publish the news in your esteemed media.
Sincerely
Mustafa Kamal Akanda (he/his/him)
