| Our sovereignty is not for selling out to the IFIs Dhaka 8 February 2009: Equity and Justice Working Group Bangladesh (Equitybd) urged the country’s newly elected political government not to sale out country’s sovereignty on economic decision making to the IFIS. As usual practice, delegations from the IFIs visit the country prior to the making of country’s annual budget, which usually completed by June each year. In this press conference they also demanded (i) not to follow contraction monetary policy as advised by IMF, and (ii) not to involve World Bank in multi donor trust fund on climate change. Decentralized local government is indispensable for local resource mobilization ![]() Dhaka 20 February 2009: Equitybd strongly believes autonomy of local government is a must for local resource mobilization. To make local government self-reliant and effective; the then care taker government formulated an ordinance; accordingly local government commission has been formed. This ordinance has to be ratified in the parliament to validate and constitutionalize local government commission. Ironically the present political government is reluctant to ratify this; Equitybd demanded continuation of the local government commission to institutionalize the autonomy of local government.
